Parenting

Are you feeling the weight of parenting alongside your studies and ministry commitments? If so, I get it. Parenting is one of life’s greatest joys and, sometimes, one of its biggest challenges. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, and yes, we all make mistakes. Instead of hiding those missteps, there’s a real power in owning them. When we admit our errors, apologize, and seek forgiveness from our kids, we’re doing more than making things right—we’re showing them how to handle their own mistakes with grace and humility.

Acknowledging our mistakes is a way of saying, “I’m human too,” which can strengthen our relationship with our kids. It teaches them that everyone stumbles and that our worth isn’t defined by perfection. This approach builds trust and helps us connect in ways that perfection never could. When we’re honest with our kids, they see that they can be honest with us, too.

Balancing family with seminary life is no easy task, and if you’re feeling weighed down, that’s okay. Seeking support, whether from a trusted friend, mentor, counselor, or pastoral caregiver, can be a great way to find balance and perspective. We don’t have to figure it all out alone, and sharing the load can lead to unexpected growth for us and our families.

In the end, every mistake, every moment of humility, is an opportunity for growth and connection. As you navigate these ups and downs, remember that each step—whether a stumble or a stride—is part of your journey as a parent, student, and follower of Christ.
